Keitumer Predigten Traugott

Predigt für die New Yorker Fire
Fighter
Brothers and Sisters! We are together in the
name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. We have the honour and
the joy, to stand in a holy Community: New York and Sylt island - in the
open space of Friendship. God bless this hour.
dein Gesell.
Er will Freude, Freundschaft, Liebe, Lachen, Teilen. Und darum habt ihr Gott
geholfen.
Ihr New Yorker Fire-Fighters wart Gottes Engel,
Amen.
Übersetzung:
Don't be afraid, just believe! This is Jesus'
voice and it is the truth! These 5 words give us the power and the strength
to live hand in hand with God! God's hand is as save as a father's hand to
his child.
Imagine: A father and his child are swimming
in the summer wind. The sea is rough and wild. All of a sudden, there is
one wave coming up, bigger and higher than the other ones, it knocks the
father and his child down. But they maintain holding hands. The whirl tears
them over the bottom of the sea. Then - finally - they get up and stand.
"were you scared, child?" - "yes, I was, but I held your hand and you held
mine."
A meaningful, deep, and strong image for our
faith: going hand in hand with God gets you through everything. Even if you
have to go through hell, God will be by your side!
Our Friends, you, the firemen from NYC, have
gone through hell. Rescuing and saving lives, were the only aims on your
minds. Again and again you descended into the chaos and you shuddered and
trembled confronted with helplessness. And you cried, full of anger, rage
and pain. And you were overwhelmed by hell turning it face to you.
And still, you went on rescuing. You are examples
of faith for everyone. Where did you get this energy and strength from? You
fought for mankind, for your brothers and sisters, trusting in God being
at your side. That made you strong and gave you strength. Thus you were able
to go back out there, time after time, to rescue, to save, to secure, to
protect and to console. "Do not be afraid, just believe", is Jesus' seal!
Of course, you were also filled with fear but we were with you - from far
away - and we suffered with you. It ripped our hearts apart. That's all we
could do.
But we knew - the one who overcame death, Jesus
Christ, was with you, he was your mate and you were his. You had confidence:
Even if there are mad and insane people out there who somehow cannot but
destroy, you still guaranteed: God, the creator of life, wants life, and
he wants his children to live, until we are old and satisfied with our lives,
ready to go to heaven. God wants joy, happiness, friendship, love, laughing,
fairness, sharing. And that is why you helped God. You have risked your own
lives to give evidence to yourselves, and to your children and to the rest
of the world that "God wants life"! and thus deliver us from evil.
You, our friends, the New York Fire Fighters
were God's angels showing the world: "Do not lose faith in live". "Do not
be afraid, just believe" - that you are held in God's hand wherever life
drags you, and whatever dark valley you must walk through. Catastrophes and
madness of men devastate the world. The Good and the Sense of life get lost.
But the darkness wants to become light, the emptiness wants fullness, thirst
longs for a "cup runneth over" (water an also in ashes voices cry out to
God. Even the silence is wrapped by God's hands.
(That is the most inner confirmation of our
Lord). Even in the darkness of his death, Jesus believed in God as the
Creator. You have experienced resurrection on yourselves, you have been
transubstantiated, you have become richer of everything that has been taken
away from you, that you are connected with in a deep and wonderful way.
Mankind itself has grown through this tremendous
pain of September 11. A result, a fruit of all that is this trip in friendship,
this service that we are celebrating today. One source is this Jesus'-label:"Do
not be afraid and do not perish. Just believe!"
Jesus Christ's resurrection is the strongest
currency on the market of hope. Let's change this certainty into many smaller
coins of daily love. Less hell, less fear, less violence, less hatred for
our sake: more making-friends, more comforting, patience, equality, more
sharing of chances through us, Christ's friends.
Take a look at the altar of Keitum's church,
it is about 500 years old. The sculpture in the middle represents God. Sure,
"you shalt not make any graven image". God does not look like this, but he
feels so. He puts Jesus and us into life and with us, together with us -
he goes into every trouble, and effort, and he leads us through it. This
being "hand in hand with God" gives wings to our hearts, it gives our souls
a happy relation to everyday life. This being "hand in hand with God" enables
our hands to accomplish acts of charity and love. We are closer to salvation
than we know. Amen.
